MAKING AND KEEPING YOUR NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS

The new season is a great reason to make and keep resolutions. Whether it’s eating right or cleaning out the garage, here are some tips for making and keeping resolutions.

  1. Set Specific, Achievable Goals: Instead of vague resolutions like "eat healthier" or "get organized," be specific. For example, "Incorporate two servings of vegetables into every dinner," or "Organize the garage by sorting one shelf each weekend." Specific goals are easier to measure and achieve.
  2. Break Down Big Goals into Smaller Steps: Large resolutions can be overwhelming. Break them down into smaller, manageable tasks. For instance, if your goal is to clean out the garage, start by dedicating a specific time each week to sort through a section or category of items.
  3. Track Your Progress: Keep a journal, use an app, or maintain a checklist to track your progress. Seeing how far you've come can be a great motivator. For health-related goals, tracking tools can be particularly useful to monitor dietary changes, workout routines, or weight loss progress.
  4. Create a Support System: Share your resolutions with friends or family members who can offer support and accountability. Consider joining online communities or groups with similar goals. For example, if your resolution is about healthy eating, join a cooking or nutrition group.
  5. Reward Yourself for Milestones: Set up small rewards for when you reach certain milestones. This could be as simple as treating yourself to a movie night after a week of healthy eating, or buying a new tool for the garage once you've cleared a certain amount of space.
  6. Stay Flexible and Adjust as Needed: Life is unpredictable, and it's okay to adjust your goals as circumstances change. The key is to stay committed to the overall intention, even if the path to getting there shifts a bit.
  7. Focus on the 'Why': Keep reminding yourself why you set these resolutions. Whether it’s to improve your health, to create a more organized living space, or to reduce stress, remembering the underlying reasons can keep you motivated.
  8. Incorporate Fun and Enjoyment: Resolutions don't have to be all about discipline and hard work. Find ways to make them enjoyable. If your goal is to eat healthier, experiment with new recipes. If it's about cleaning the garage, play your favorite music while you work to make the task more enjoyable.

Remember, the key to successful resolutions is not just in setting them, but in the journey of working towards them. Every small step counts!
